......new ways to eat strawberries. Apparently, according to 6 year-olds, they're delish smothered in chocolate spread but it mustn't be the 'fake' stuff from cheaper supermarkets, nothing but the real deal will do!
Yep, gets my seal of approval!
This artist's work was recommended to me so I had a scout around her website and settled on these two cards. one for my sister's birthday in August and one for a very dear friend (you know who you are!). They were despatched from the artist extremely quickly in this pretty envelope (Barbara Anne is my given 'Sunday' name - no Beach Boy jokes, please!).
Time for my lace-cap Hydrangea to make an appearance. Some blooms are pink and some are a gorgeous lilac colour and it's probably growing in the wrong place but I would be wary of lifting it now and moving it. It's seems happy to be where it grows.
I found the quilt in my Mum's sewing room last week and had quite forgotten that I made it about 30 years ago! I recently gave it to her to put a backing on and bind it for me. Sometimes I amaze myself at the amount of patience I used to have to make stuff. I have another cot quilt stashed somewhere that I started for my niece when she was born. She had her 29th birthday in April! Might keep it as a keepsake for her when she gets married! I'm knitting for the new baby. A little sweater with the Tree of Life on it and I made him a pair of 'diaper soakers', which is what the new, modern Mummies are using for their babies at night time over their re-usable nappies. Once the soakers are knitted up, you soak them in 'lanoliser' which gives them a waterproof coating and reputedly keeps everything dry. I'll let you know the results once they've had a trial run! Personally, I think they look like those old-fashioned bathing trunks that people used to wear in days gone by and which, after a good soaking in the sea, stretched to the size of a pair of trousers! Hope these fare better. I bought the 'duck egg blue' to make baby an Aran hoodie for wintertime but I have a feeling I'll need more supplies, he's growing at the rate of noughts.
I ordered 'American Dirt' from the library before lockdown and got a notification last week that my local library was opening up but just for collection of requests and drop off of overdue books (no fines which was a huge bonus). For those who have never heard of it, it is quite a 'heavy' book to get into but it's incredibly well written and what a story. The 'Shetland' book is much lighter, though it's a murder/mystery, a genre that I've never really been a great fan of but my sister recommended the series and I'm actually enjoying them (ably helped along with the image of 'Jimmy Perez' in my mind while I'm reading).
A recent acquisition from a lovely lady who lives in the Scottish Borders and who trades under the name The Border Tart. She travels to India a lot and gets loads of inspiration there for her shop which is chockful of lovely stuff. She only uses natural ingredients to dye her yarn and her favourite colour is Indigo. Pop over to see why.

Last but not least, adding some little knitting projects to my 'Winter Leisure-time Portfolio' because I have a feeling I will have more than enough time to make one or all of them.
xoxoxoxo
Think that's enough to be going on with.

I would like one little piece of advice. I'm trying to set up a 'household finances' spreadsheet-type thingy (better late than never) and wondered what was the best app to use, preferably free, so all recommendations gratefully received.

That quilt looks like beautiful stained glass! That embroidery pattern looks fantastic - thanks for sharing the link!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I thought it looked like stained glass too, with the sun shining through it on the washing line.
DeleteI have my card with the bunny! it's in draft format for my next blog post :) don't know how you find these creative people but you have an eye for some lovely stuff. You have such a lot of craft work going on, I couldn't even attempt one of them! The wool lady who gets inspired by going to India sounds interesting. I have never heard of lanoliser or these pants, how peculiar. I love Nutella - I have a spoonful straight from the jar when nobody's looking - in my view it comes under healthy eating as well, being hazelnut and all that - with strawberries would seem even more so! I am enjoying your retirement through the Blogland window xxx
ReplyDeleteThe wool lady (Lindsay) went to Rajasthan (sp?) in January to one of those working women's'workshops and she came back with some fantastic stuff. I like to buy from her because some of her proceeds go back to the workshops India. She sells 'Boro Boxes' too but they're outwith my budget atm! You can buy gigantic jars of Nutella now but getting to the bottom of one of those would take months (not to mention that my bottom's quite big enough at the moment thanks very much). Thanks for calling in, Pal. xxx
DeleteI love those knitted bloomers, they do look like Victorian bathers, I'd love to see the little 'un modelling them!
ReplyDeleteThose cards are fab and I'm liking the sound of the lady in The Borders and her Indian influenced goodies. I'm sending one of my crafty friends a link, she'd love them!
I think we've got similar tastes in books so I'm making a note of those.
Those hydrangeas are gorgeous, I'm loving how vibrant my pink one is this year, I've moved it four times since i bought it for £1 are a car boot sale and finally I think it's happy! xxx
My local village hall is having a book swap tomorrow (safety measures in place) and there's tons of books all lined up for the picking. I've donated a few but will probably end up bringing double the amount home!I've got a bright pink Hydrangea which I grew as a cutting from my ex-work. I shall miss all my freebies from there!xxx
DeleteA lovely post Anne. Your hydrangea is gorgeous ... makes me long for summer days when mine will be in bloom. Your knitting projects are beautiful & I love that shade of duck egg blue. Sorry I have absolutely no info regarding the spreadsheets .. . my daughter in law is very knowledgeable about these things so I will message her & ask for you. xx
ReplyDeleteYour Summer days will be here before you know but Julie. Thanks for visiting, Julie.xxx
ReplyDelete'before you know it'!bloomin' predictive!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness you have been busy. I might have to try strawberries smothered in chocolate, but will have to eat none sugar variteis of chocolate so there goes the cheap store version for me. Love the flowers and projects and have never heard of those diaper covers soaks and waterproofed. Well done by those Mom's to use them. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks Meredith. It's all new to me too, these 'new' but not-so-new ideas! Stay safe too.xxx
DeleteBeautiful flowers.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHi I had one of the Bordertart’s boro boxes and showed it a friend who teaches textiles and we ended up having two super workshops using the boro boxes. I also bought some of her wrapping paper. It was so nice I couldn’t being myself to use it haha
ReplyDeleteHello Lynn and thanks for popping in. I have my eye on a Boro Box and I also bought some of Lindsay's wool from her when she did a craft fair in my local village hall a couple of years ago. I can't bring myself to use it either, it looks so good as it is! She has a new sewing kit out which also looks really nice but I already have enough material stash of my own. Hope you'll come back soon.
