Good Friday........

Every Easter, my Mother-in-Law (I dislike calling her my 'ex mother-in-law' which would totally discount her as someone special in my life and which she would have been insulted by) used to religiously (literally!) watch 'King of Kings' and when it came to the part where Jesus was crucified, a little silent tear would roll down her cheek and she would say 'wasn't it terrible what the Romans did to Jesus'? She uttered those words every year while she watched the film and while her fabulous Italian culinary creations were waiting to be served at the annual Easter feast that she laid on for her family. Easter was very special to her. She was devout in her conviction to her religion and I used to wonder how she could have carried on having such incredible faith when her life was touched by tragedy on so many occasions but carry on she did until the day she died. She was a very special little woman and an incredible mother and grandmother. I'm dedicating today to her.

Week 3 of isolation has seen a little progress on the 'to do' list. I cleaned out my shed for a start and found loads of tins of paint which I had acquired at our local council 'tip'. They have a dedicated storge area for leftover/new cans of paint and if you ask very nicely, they let you have a rake around to see if there's anything which would be useful. I always manage to find something.

I also 'procured' half a tin of Farrow and Ball emulsion in a nice shade of duck egg blue, a couple of small tester pots and a tin of Hammerite matt black for outdoor use.  I also unearthed my very good paintbrushes so we're all kitted up for the d-i-y and good to go. I won't give you an actual 'start date' but watch this space!

I also found this sample book of wallpapers which my boss had asked me to recycle. I previously 'patchworked' my entrance porch wall with some of them and intend to use the rest for my bedroom, also on the 'to do' list which is getting longer as we speak!

Then I found these old Ikea shelves which I pinched rescued from a skip some time ago. Not sure where to put them but I'm sure I can find a suitable spot.

I recently joined Cecile Balladino's (famous French crocheter) FB 'Isolation' group and yesterday, I gathered all my French tat bits and pieces and painted the shelf in my kitchen with one of the tester pots I found in the shed, as a little homage to my new French friends.

I wish you all the happiest Easter that you can manage this year and more importantly, stay home and stay safe.

  1. A lovely post Anne. I love your little shelf ... looks so cute. I loved the story about your Mother in Law. I had an "ex Mother in Law" too but like you - we stayed friends & stayed in touch. Mine passed away aged just 69 & I still miss her today. Wishing you a happy Easter my friend xxx

    1. Thank you Julie. Sorry to hear that your Mother-in-Law had passed. 69 is no age at all, as my own age creeps towards it (and hopefully, will reach it!). Hope you had a good Easter too.xxx

How fab to get yoursrelf some posh Farrow and Ball paint for free, a little goes a long way. looking forward to seeing how you use both that and your wallpaper sample book.
The shelf is lovely, what a nice idea to join a Facebook isolation group to be bothe connected and motivated. Facebook drives me daft generally but the few groups of which I'm a menber are welcoming and positive.

    1. Thanks Vix. I've uncovered even more paint and have started to use some of it on my garden furniture, while the weather is nice. I'll tackle the indoor jobs when it rains! I love FB for the fact I can keep in touch with my bestie and other family in NZ and for videochatting with my girlies and all for free!!
