I spent a very pleasant Sunday afternoon at my local library where the group of volunteer stitchers continue with the Cancer Tapestry (I think I've told you about it before but you can click on the link for further explanation). I worked on this section, making lots of French Knots which made my eyes cross by the end of the session!!
This was not my work but I'd like to learn how to do this stitch.
My own little tapestry, to be included in the border of the finished tapestry, is coming along, though her shape is a little questionable! I'm enjoying making her though!
I also enjoy making up various 'recipes' with leftover food for the chooks, who are a particularly fussy crowd. Yesterday's offerings were porridge oats with oat milk, crushed up choc digestive biscuits and butterscotch sauce! After the usual initial sniffing and pecking, they soon got stuck in until the bowl was empty! Should ensure some tasty eggs today!

I love this post - more please!!! tree surgery is such a useful skill (my brother learned) our neighbour has just hacked his beautiful dark red tree to bits (think it might be laburnum) he did the same thing with his fruit trees that then got attacked by aphids and died - so sad for this tree. I am not too sure about chickens, I was once told they had small brains so might peck your eye if you cuddle them - not sure if that's true but they aren't that cuddly anyways. I think your embroidered cat is Amber, it looks like her :)
ReplyDeleteI don't normally go near the chickens, Betty but as you know my boss is otherwise occupied!!I wouldn't dream of picking any of them up - they're not the most friendly type!! I'm glad you think the little cat looks like Amber. I'm making her in commemoration of my pal who died from Pancreatic Cancer who also adored her two cats. I shall now officially name embroidered cat 'Amber Cat'!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tree. I am partial to trees myself. Taking down a large trees near homes and fences and other trees is truly an art. I watched some tree surgeons take down a huge old oak and it kept me occupied all day! It was fascinating. I hope your tree recovers. I wanted to get chickens but even though we have no sidewalks here and no street lights or curbs and the road is crumbling....we are not allowed by law to have "livestock" in town. In LA they have chickens in apartments! I used to live in the country and I am desperately trying to get back. The embroidery is beautiful and what a great cause.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Not sure about keeping 'house-chickens', rather messy, not to mention smelly!!I hope your plan to get back to the countryside is successful.
DeleteTree surgery is interesting, isn't it? I love the idea of going to great lengths to save a very old tree.
ReplyDeleteYour embroidery is lovely! How nice of you to join in.
Those chooks are very well fed! I bet they clucked for joy! xoxoxo
Those chooks are very spoiled!!xx
