Storm Ciara visited our shores this weekend and while Scotland was battered by some pretty hefty gales and rain at the weekend, the snow stayed away, until today. I went out early afternoon to fetch some supplies in preparation of the Grandchildren arriving tomorrow for a sleepover (schools are on holiday here this week) and by the time I exited the shop, the sky was very dark and a light fluttering of snow had started. On the road home, I was driving in a snowstorm! It hasn't amounted to much now so hopefully, it will all be gone in the morning when I have to travel to work. I used to not mind driving in those conditions but now I do mind. Must be an age thing?
While the men were atop the tree, they discovered the remnants of the beehive which the swarming bees from last year had left (nothing as frightening as a big black cloud of a gazillion bees buzzing and hovering above your head, looking for somewhere to park themselves! Ask me how I know?). Anyway, they'd made themselves comfortable in a gigantic hole in the tree (one reason why it had to come down because the hole had been caused by tree rot which eventually would have spread through the whole tree) and left behind a whole lot of honeycomb - some of which the tree surgeons helped themselves to! Isn't nature wonderful?
It's a bit sad looking now, the remainder of the beautiful tree but it will be taken down to 10ft and then a treehouse is being built on the rest of it for the grandchildren of my employer.

I bought some blueberries today with a very honest label. At least I thought it was honest but for the life of me, I can't find one 'wonky' blueberry amongst them! They taste good though and were quite a bit cheaper than the 'normal' shaped variety.

It's good weather for knitting and the little cardi is coming along nicely. The new baby will be here in a few weeks. Did I tell you how very excited I am?!

Currently reading this book by Ann Cleeves, the author of the books on which the tv series 'Shetland' is based. It's not my usual genre but was recommended by my sister so giving it a go, plus the little pic of the handsome detective Jimmy Perez on the cover kind of swayed it for me! Shallow, moi???
I'm quite enjoying it so far.

What are you reading right now?

Hope you've all been sheltering from the storm and that everybody who has been affected by the flooding is keeping safe and warm.

Hi Annie! I am reading The Instance of the Fingerpost. It's long and a smidge tedious. It's for book club.
ReplyDeleteBees and honey! How very lovely!
You'll have fun keeping the grands. I'm glad our sleepovers allow for me to go to bed when I want to. That used to be the hardest thing, staying up too late.
Snow. Yes, we have it, too. More coming. Our snowblower is in the shop, too. Hope the fixers can fix it soon.
Sending heaps of love your way!
Yes, they would like to stay up too late too but Old Grumpy Bags Nana can't hold out that long so we all climb the stairs at the same time! I don't mind if they want to read, as long as they do it quietly! My days of madness and mayhem are well and truly over. Luckily, I have the best Granddaughters in the whole world (apart from yours, of course!lol) so their behaviour is normally exemplary when they're here and they're such fun to have here too. I got all their favourite food today so even if we get snowed-in, we won't starve! Hope you get your snowblower out of the shop quickly. Heaps of love back atcha'!!xxx
ReplyDeleteps sorry your book is tedious. If it weren't for book club, I'd say 'ditch and switch'!!
Hi Anne, I hope you got some of that honeycomb for yourself. I bought a jar for hubby recently as he had never tasted it before! We have had some massive winds, some rain but no snow. I haven't been into the woods yet as wanted to make sure it would be safe. I think a tree house will be wonderful for children and adults alike! Betty x
ReplyDeleteI should be so lucky, Betty. It was all snaffled before I got back to work! Think you should stay away from the woods until the calm weather restores itself.
DeleteThat is one huge tree Anne - well was I should say! How wonderful that a tree hut will be built in the remains! You must share a pic when that happens. Your little cardy is looking beautiful. I bought some blueberries yesterday too - I love them with some yoghurt for my lunch. Happy week to you my friend xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie and happy week to you too (I hear it's unbearably hot over your way so keep cool also).x
DeleteDoes your employer live in a castle? It looked like a big fountain out there and I thought it was your home until you said they were building a tree house for his grandchildren. They were talking about that storm you had over there on our news....you know they're bad when they name them! Glad you are alright and I said prayers for all with the flooding etc. They showed a popular restaurant in Scotland falling into a raging river!
ReplyDeleteI love the little sweater! So precious! Is that Duck Egg Blue? I adore that color! What's the pattern? I've not read Ann Cleeves but I've heard of her. I've been reading Joanne Fluke's murder mysteries and now I'm reading a great book....Marley and Me about the worst dog in the world...true story. I hear they made a movie out of it too. I'm so far behind the times! One of these days I might subscribe to the Acorn channel which has UK programming which I much prefer to ours. Take care, stay warm and love to hear about your books and your knitting!
No, she doesn't live in a castle but knows people who do! I wouldn't want to live in her home. The bills are astronomical! Yes, the colour of the yarn is Duck Egg Blue, since we don't know whether the new baby will be a boy or a girl, yet, I thought it was a safe bet to go 'neutral'!The pattern is from a book which I got from the library called 'Lullaby Knits'.Some of the patterns are quite complex but I like their 'modern' look.I might check out Joanne Fluke next time I'm at the library. Thanks for visiting.x
