Sunflowers
For the last couple of years, a local farmer has used the 'set-aside' part of one of his fields to plant up sunflowers and very generously allows folks to go and help themselves when they're ready for picking. I went along the other day and did just that.
Grateful for the opportunity to wander amongst them in a week where the news has been at its grimmest.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Somehow the sunflowers seem more significant this year, being the national flower of Ukraine

How wonderful that the farmer does that Anne. We grow millet to make into silage & feed to the cows at the farm & we sometimes put sunflowers in with the millet as the oil is very good for the cows. But that is just beautiful .. how can you not feel happy when you look at sunflowers with their smiley heads. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie. Yes, it's certainly uplifting even just driving past the field nearly everday. xcc
ReplyDeleteEverybody loves sunflowers...and how kind of the farmer x
ReplyDeleteGood bunch of farming folk round here.x
DeleteGorgeous photos! What a wonderfully kind gesture by that farmer. People like him make the world a far better place. xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Vix. A nice lot of farmers in this area thankfully.x
DeleteBlogger has been playing up and wouldn't let me leave a comment . How lovely to have a farmer who shares all those beautiful sunflowers - I hope you took lots - you could make a dried garden wreath for the birds :)
ReplyDeleteJust took one bunch for now. The farmer asks that people not be too greedy when picking but there's loads to go round and the butterflies and bees love them in the field. I'll make a wreath and leave some seeds on the bird table . Thanks for the tip, Betty.x
