So before he left these shores to go flying his way across the Irish Sea, Jolly and me had one last long walk to the nature reserve 5 minutes from my back door and where we saw a flock of geese coming in to land for the Winter months where they'll take up residence and fly off again next Spring to colder climates. It's quite a spectacular sight and sound, especially since the geese fly right over my garden on the approach to the nature reserve. Jolly had never seen such a spectacle. He forgot to write up about it in his travelling journal but here are some pics of the day.

The marshes are usually full of ducks swimming to and fro and Jolly spied some oystercatchers wading there too.
|
 |
| We didn't have time to take the long walk across the bridge this time. Maybe another day. |
 |
| Thank goodness for that, said Jolly. He though the bridge looked a bit rickety. |
 |
| Then it was time to go home and make something from the glut of plums that we'd collected from my 'old workplace' the day before. |
 |
| Some nice plum jam in the making, as well as plum ketchup, just to try it but it was a bit of a faff although very, very tasty. |

Jolly wished he could bottle the aroma which smelled divine. He also wished he could take some jam home with him when it was ready for he know how much PomPom loved plum jam! xoxoxo And then it was time for one last cup of cocoa and a lovely scone, this time with plum jam on it before heading up to his room to pack for the long journey to Northern Ireland to stay with Mags. He'd had such a great time in Scotland and felt sure he would come back one day, hopefully with a new wife by his side! xoxoxoxo So this is not Au Revoir, Jolly but simply A Bientot until we meet again. Safe and quick journey home. xoxoxo |
What stunning views & look at that beautiful blue sky. I can just imagine that Jolly wanted to take some of that Plum Jam back home again - how delicious it all looks. I think Jolly has had a wonderful time with you Anne. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie. Yes I'm lucky to live here, although not exactly in the kind of house I'd really love to end up in but I'm not complaining too much. The sky really has been that blue most days this summer. Grateful for them all.xxx
DeleteOh Jolly! I bet he's sad to say good bye! What a lovely nature walk you had! I hope Mags is up for having him. I haven't heard from her in a while! Thank you so very much, dearest Anne!
ReplyDeleteAll good with Mags. She's looking forward to the visitation!xxx
DeleteI hope you warned him that Mags likes to swim in the sea all year round! He's clearly had a great time visiting the beautiful scenery around you, and been well fed. You've been a fab hostess!
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela. I think Jolly's had enough of wild women, never mind wild swimming!!xxx
DeleteI'm loving the sound of plum ketchup! I've not eaten jam in years but am salivating at the look of yours.
ReplyDeleteI bet Jolly will remember his time with you forever, what fun he had! xxx
I tell you what, I can't do many things successfully but I must admit, my jams and marmalades are ace, even though I do say so myself. The plum ketchup is delicious! Thanks for popping in, Vix.x
DeleteOh my, you live 5 minutes from that incredible seascape? What a delight!
ReplyDeleteI, too have been cooking plums, and my favourite, damsons. In my case, some jam I made two years ago remains still uneaten, so I just stew them instead, freeze them to preserve, and eat with yoghurt - delicious!
Yes, it's the local Nature Reserve and bird sanctuary. The Canadian geese fly right over my garden on their way there and back home again. It's quite a sight to see them flying in and landing. In the next five years, they're planning to plonk 400+ wind turbines in the estuary, stretching from my coastline to the opposite coast, which is in Fife. I hope the planning permission is denied. I'm all for renewable energy, just not in this beautiful coastline. It will be the ruination of the wildlife that inhabits our shores.
DeleteAh, what a lovely walk Jolly had! Such beautiful views!
ReplyDeleteThose plums look delicious! My plum tree did nothing this year so I was rather sad. Not sure if it ever will do.
Thought I'd pop across from Ang's blog to say Hello.
Hello right back, Kezzie. What a treat to have you here. Maybe if you gave your plum tree a bit of a prune come Springtime, it might come good for you later? Thanks for calling in. x
DeleteI think it is too small. We bought it from the garden centre in a pot last year and it did nothing so we planted it this year and it did nothing at all, not even leaves! Most odd!X
DeleteMaybe a good feed in the Springtime would do it some good, Kezzie? Don't give up on it.
