Summer 2021 Highlights II

Carrying on with the Summertime outings, we visited my favourite garden centre - lovely tea and scones to be had sitting underneath the ruins on a pretty Summer's day - and although I didn't buy anything, I've got my eye on a rather nice bright pink Buddleia (Butterfly Bush) but I'm hoping it's come down in price by the time I get a chance to go back and rescue it.

We discovered a couple of new-to-us beaches but nearly got caught out with the parking attendant when I had no change for the meter. I put on my 'hopeless old lady looking after the grandchildren' act and he very kindly let me off that one time!

There was a lot of putting up of feet on the too hot days!

Through the garden gate into a rather posh stately home which is five minutes away and had an open day a couple of weeks ago. We took a picnic and did some exploring afterwards.

A very grand pad indeed with spectacular views from inside, of the Edinburgh skyline.
Peek-a-boo!

Last week, we took a trip on the girls' penultimate day with me before school returned, to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. The Chinese Garden was our favourite.

The little-est person in the family had a staycation with his parents in this fabulous holiday home near Ullapool. This was his favourite spot. He was mesmerised by the sea (loves paddling, no matter how cold it is on his tiny toes).

Last but not least, in the absence of the annual flower show again this year, we submitted a cake baked by the biggest girlie (she decorated the plate too!) into the online local agricultural show and won first prize (a ticket to next year's show which will hopefully be live by then). Not quite the same as attending in person but so be it.

Thanks to everyone who visited last time. I really appreciate you taking the time to read my offerings which at best aren't so exciting in the grand scheme of things and maybe at worst, incredibly boring but nevertheless, it's a lovely way to keep in touch, don't you think?

'Til next time.

    1. Thanks so much Julie. Yes, the cake was baked from scratch, she didn't even need a recipe and it was filled and decorated with all our favourites i.e. vanilla, coconut and mini-marshmallows!!

    1. Thanks Meredith. We've made some lovely memories this summer. The girls are so easy to have around. I surely missed them this week when they went back to school. The parking attendant just happened to be young and handsome and I found it very easy to feign being a useless old crone!! x

    1. Thanks Vix. Yes, the view is stunning - it's a holiday home owned by my daughter-in-law's friend but my son was rather miffed they didn't get 'mates' rates'!

  5. Hi Annie! Oh, that cake! Yum! You are such a good granny, taking the kids on fun outings!
I hope you buy the butterfly bush! We had a fierce rain last night and my cosmos and some sunflowers took a beating. It's almost time to pull stuff up.
I hope you are well! Are you ready for Jolly? It might be a while, but he's coming for you! Love love!

    1. Thanks Pom. Outings are much better with good company! Yes, I read about the bad weather, probably a backlash from Storm Henri? I hope Jolly gets here before our weather turns or we might both suffer from a little cabin fever!xx

Do feel free to leave a little imprint to say you've called in.
My heartfelt gratitude for doing so and giving up your precious time and generosity of good spirit.
Come back soon.

The Wheels on the Bus....

Pinch punch second of the month! Typical me, chasing my tail as per! My car's very sick this week so I'm left without transport for ...
