The dishwasher was already full!
At this point, they were all tucking into chocolate profiteroles and ice cream, provided by my eldest boy.
It was a very lovely time, having them all under the same roof at the same time and tomorrow we'll all be together again for the day because my sisters and I have organised a surprise 89th birthday party for my Mother, at her house!
Today, I'm having a bit of a slow day. 😀

There were an abundance of charity shops in the area where I went a-wandering and I particularly liked this display in one of them, mostly of murder mystery books but I didn't buy any since I have more than enough books to kit out a library, including some library books which are due back next week! Mustn't forget.
I followed the long climb up the Royal Mile (through throngs of Japanese tourists!) and down through The Mound to Princes Street Gardens where the remnants of the Christmas Market were still in place. I didn't manage to get there before Christmas this year. For one thing, it's been too cold and for another, too many people but it does look really pretty at night, when the sky is dark and the lights are very bright and colourful.
These really brave people were circling the blue sky and making a lot of noise while they were at it!
Eventually, the reason for my visit came into sight. My friend, The Artist, was having an exhibition of his latest paintings. Edinburgh captured in her beauty through his canvasses.
I couldn't afford to buy any, even with the 'pay-as-you-go' scheme that the gallery temptingly dangles in the introduction of their brochure to accompany the exhibition. I did pick up a free postcard though. That'll do for now.
I love the colour in this painting. It reminded me of my niece's hair on Christmas Day. She's an art student! They love colour, those artists.
It was a most enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. I'm working on doing more of it this year, time, money and the needs of other people allowing!

Hope your weekend is going well. Back to some sense of normality next week now that it's all over for another year.
I've cleared the decks of the remaining evidence of Christmas and taken a huge box of surplus ornaments and decorations to the charity shop.
I think 'minimalism' is going to be my word of the year.
What about you?

Happy New Year my friend! That could well have been my kitchen in your photos there - mine looked rather similar!! How wonderful to be able to just "pop on the train up to Edinburgh". You don't know how much I would love to be able to say that! The exhibition looked wonderful. Yes I am going to make time & energy this year to do some things for me too my friend. The months roll by & its easy to just run around looking after everyone else & forget about doing things that bring us Joy. xxxx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie. Planning more 'me' time and putting it into practise is like juggling with balloons, for me at any rate!!Hope you have more success this year.xxx
DeleteI am impressed that your veggies all came from farmer son, fresh from the ground - I bet everything was delicious. My buzz word probably would be Plan - I could have so much more time to do nice things if I just planned - as I am forever cleaning something and there is never any routine or logic to it! Decorations were cleared yesterday and it feels so much roomier but I do miss those fairy lights.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Betty. I keep a set of those tiny led fairy lights around my mantlepiece all year round! I think you're doing alright with your daily itinerary! At least you get to go swimming and stuff. We have 'oldie's' nights at our local pool but only on Wednesday nights which is useless for me. Anyway, I wouldn't want to scare anybody off with the sight of me in a bathing costume at the moment!!xxx
Deletep.s. Edinburgh is somewhere I would love to visit one day - how lovely to see your friend's work displayed.
ReplyDeleteYou can come visit anytime. If you're not looking for luxury it's very cheap and cheerful at mine!xxx
DeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteLoving the sound of your vegetarian option - yum! Your niece's hair is lovely and you're right, the colours echo your clever friend's artwork perfectly.
Blimey - minimalism! That strikes a note of fear into this maximalist's heart. xxx
Thank you, Vix. It's very easy to make filo parcels with that ready-made stuff! The other half of my niece's head is luminous green, which you can just see in the pic. I've been told off by one of my daughters-in-law for having so much crap in my house so think I should get rid of some of it before I eventually shuffle off! They'll only toss the lot anyway so might as well be selective about where it's going before that happens!xxx
