Finally getting around to catching up with this here trusty old blog. Time just seems to get away from me on a daily basis between one thing and another!
Anyhoot, here we are again at the start of what is promising to be a sunny beginning to the coming Summer months with wall-to-wall sunshine the whole of last week, with the occasional fresh breeze and more bright days to come this week. Makes you feel energised, don't you think? There's certainly been a flurry of outdoor activity in the garden with more and more colour popping up everyday. It's great to see some of the cuttings that I planted up last year finally showing their true colours. You always know when gardening season has truly begun whenever RHS Chelsea Flower Show has rolled around again. Monty wasn't pulling any punches this year with his likes and dislikes and even had a pop at the judging! Good on you Monty!
A bit fuzzy macro-wise but you get the gist of this pretty and delicate Geum that I managed to cultivate from a cutting that I 'procured' from a posh garden last year! The eagle-eyed amongst you might spot a leaf or two of Ground Elder which has decided to take up residence in the long border. That's on this week's 'to-do' list! How's your garden growing now that summer's nearly here?
So last week, I took a trip down the coast to one of the Zero Waste initiative warehouses that have sprung up in the last few years and which are doing a grand job of keeping our unwanted stuff out of landfill. The first thing I spied when I got there was this fantastic looking object just sitting there in the window! It had already been sold and I wondered where it's new home was going to be. I think if Vix had spied it she'd have carted it off home with her!

That's a Nandi Bull, the animal vehicle of the god Shiva, in Hinduism. Nandi means 'giving joy'. I am not sure it would bring me joy to have to find a space for him in my little bungalow! Monty D and Alan T have both been honest in their comments about the CFS - and even tho I am not an experienced gardener, I see sense in much of what they have said.
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure about the lady at the CFS who hosed down the Just Stop Oil protestors- surely it would have been more efficient to sweep away/vacuum up the orange powder, rather than soaking it so it then spread everywhere and sunk in?. I think the JSO crowd are antagonising so many people that their reasons for protest are being drowned out by the angry response of those who see property being defaced. .
I did love Remake Scotland when we were in Crieff, and on our last day we called in again. Reuse & Recycle is my current mantra
Thanks for info Ang. I wouldn't have had a clue about 'Nandi' though I did suspect he had some sort of religious significance. Most of the things that are donated or saved from landfill by this particular initiative are locally sourced so I would have loved to find out where he originated from and where he was going!
DeletePs just finished a jumper for my granddaughter with some of the wool you sent. I'm thrilled with how it's turned out (can't blog yet, as its a surprise for her birthday next month) Thank you!
Delete👌 excellent news. I knew you would be able to use it up and worthy recipient who will be wearing it! Can't wait to see the finished article!x
DeleteYou know me so well, I love Nandi and would happily have given him house room! I'm far better than accumulating clutter than I am parting with it!
ReplyDeleteWell done on that geum, I keep meaning to get myself a couple for our garden, Carol Klein loves them, doesn't she? I'm way behind on the gardening shows. I was so in love with Rachel de Thame's clothes at Chelsea I couldn't concentrate on the plants! xxx
Thanks Vix. I'm nurturing that Geum and hopefully will get another couple of cuttings from it this year. I so miss the ex-works garden and all the 'freebies' that were available!x
DeleteHow lovely to see you again! Good to know that you are back to your favourite activities. Summer is an uplifting time!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's a hefty challenge and good on you achieving it!It's very easy to desist from buying anymore junk when you see the clear spaces it provides when you get rid of it! x
ReplyDeleteThanks Sens. It's been a long winter, I feel!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! good to see you 'blogging' again. I've just donated 15 pairs of trousers and a whole box of assorted clothes so I'm doing my decluttering (but I have just brought in two more paintings...)...the trousers were all 'they will fit me again one day'...until I weighed myself in Boots and realised they never would! That pretty flower is great...well done for giving it life x
ReplyDeleteHey Libs, great to hear from you. I daren't go near the scales! I know I'm a lot heavier, post lockdown and broken ankle syndrome gave me a penchant for large quantities of crisps even though I have colitis and really shouldn't partake! Well done on clearing space in your wardrobe.x
Deleteso nice to see a post from you. I would have snapped up that Indian cow statue, it's fabulous. We don't have any recycling places like that hereabouts yet sadly. My garden is looking healthy and full of bees :) bettt
ReplyDeleteThe statue was enormous and not surprisingly sold. They have a place in Edinburgh which I visited at the weekend, even more stuff! Good on you encouraging the bees. I think there's a nest underneath my shed!
DeleteHello dearie dear! Clearing out? Sort of. I often tell myself NOT to go to thrift stores or antique shops because I already have similar merchandise LOL! Little by little we're working in the dirt. Mostly Bill is using the weed whacker to get rid of the jungle look before it comes. I hope you have a lovely summer! xo
ReplyDeleteHey Pom. How great to hear from you. I bet your garden is flourishing now that Bill has tackled all those weeds! Have a great weekend.xx
