Past Times = Vintage

Sunrise 23:11:22

It's been a couple of years since I enjoyed an outing involving crowds of people (unless you include vaccination outings!) and I'm not going to lie, I was a little trepidatious about going but my sister had asked me especially to chum her to a local vintage fair which had restarted after a pandemic pause so off we went on a bright and crisp Sunday morning.

There was lots of tartan on show and I loved this cape. Wish I'd bought it now even though I might have ended up looking like a Scottish Nurse Gladys without the Gladstone bag!

These boots were brand new LK Bennett and came with a hefty pricetag and a four inch heel! Lovely colours though.
Trendy young vendors.

Loved these trousers.

These ladies were so well turned out, I had to sneak a pic!

Some nifty pieces of furniture for sale.

Hey Mr. DJ!
I was very restrained and didn't buy anything - I could actually have my own vintage fair with the contents of my house - but it was an enjoyable day, finished off with a cuppa and a scone down by the beach.

A couple of days later, I walked into a local charity shop and this was the first thing I saw!
Tartan Season is definitely here!

Thanks for getting this far and wading through the forest of pics! Hope you enjoyed.
Until next time.

  1. Hi Anne what a lovely tartan overload, I don't think a tartan cape would suit me but it would certainly look the part on you with a Scottish backdrop! I hope you did buy yourself a few treats. I still have the beautiful mohair Scottish purple and pink wrap you gave me, it's on full display in the lounge as is great for nights in front of the telly :) Betty x

  2. Great tartans, and lovely colours! I still have the colourful crochet mat you sent me years ago. It is exactly the right size to go under my vase of silk flowers in the lounge here, so since retirement has been on permanent display (and gets many compliments) I get the Nurse Gladys thing. I ended up selling my Welsh Wool Cape on Etsy to a young French student. Beautiful garments, but you need to be tall, slim and young to carry them off well.

  5. I was scrutinising those vintage fair photos to see if I could spot any traders I knew! That cape was gorgeous, loved the colours! What a lovely adventure to share with your sister.
Do the fair organisers have a Facebook page? Might be worth sharing the cape photo and asking is the traders still have it. The fair season usually ends in November so they might be happy to do a deal! xxx

    1. Thanks Vix. For some reason you're comment was languishing in the spam box! How very dare they! Do they know who you are??!!lol Anyhoot, wish you could have a stall at our vintage fairs. You'd certainly be a surefire hit and would certainly add something! I tried contacting the organisers about another item I was interested in but no joy. Just have to wait until next year!

  6. Like you Anne, I think that over the years I have bought/passed on to charity shops, so many of those sorts of things....we grew up with second hand (or pre-loved!) and I very rarely buy anything now in those sorts of places but do love a little mooch around!.Good to spend time with your sister..x

  7. Thanks Libs. I was buying 'Vintage' clothes in the early '70's. I found an absolute diamond of a lady who sold stuff on rails from her front room and from then on I was addicted! I used to get some odd looks from my office colleagues when I turned up for work in the strangest (to them!) outfits!xxx

  8. Hi Annie! Oh, that was cool! I think that cape would suit you. I'm always slow to actually purchase (lol). I'm glad you got out and about. You do like to have fun! xo

  9. I'd have been tempted by alll that tartan too! One of my favourite vintage pieces is a Parisian red tartan Dirndl skirt I picked up at Corbridge Antiques centre in Northumberland. Capes are marvellous! I hope that you find one again, if it stays in your subconscious wishes!x
