  5. Nana, I've been wondering how you are getting on with your foot broken in three places. I suspect that, like me, you thought that when the cast came off, everything was on the home stretch. I broke my wrist, a nasty, large and crooked break, seven and a half weeks ago, and naively thought that when the cast came off, everything would go back to normal. OH!!! Still stiff, still swollen, still bent out of line
    - the consultant cheerily told me it would NEVER go back to how it was before, and would take a year to recover maximum (ie 95%) normal function. It still hurts ALL the time, it still wakes me in the night with pain. This was not what I expected at all. I have often thought of you on this journey, and you have my utmost sympathy.

    1. Oh my goodness. That's not good. I have broken my right wrist in the past (ice-skating!) and my index finger is no longer straight but I can live with that. I was at physio the other day and he told me it's too soon to expect everything to be back to 'normal' as far as my ankle goes. It can take up to 18 months for the broken bones to heal and recover but thankfully, I'm not in any pain to speak of. 7 and a half weeks for you is no time at all. You'll have to be patient and be a good patient! Thinking of you and sending healing hugs. x

    2. 18 months! heavens above. Yes, I will have to be patient. At least you are seeing a physio in person. I have first "appointment" tomorrow - online video. Thanks for your good thoughts and the same to you x

    3. I have to say that the physiotherapists and occupational therapists care has been excellent, right from the get-go from when I was in hospital up until now. I thought I'd be 'signed off' from their care the other day but they want me back in a month's time. I have been 'signed off' from the consultant at the hospital though so at least no more x-rays! I'm surprised they are doing online appointments for you. You'd think they'd want to x-ray your wrist to make sure the bones are doing what they should be. Maybe mention the pain you're experiencing too.

    4. Thanks, I read your reply before appt and did ask about the pain. The appointment was well over half an hour (don't know what they allow) and I asked all 8 of the questions on my list, plus therapist showed me how to do the exercises on the leaflet hospital gave me (oh that's Q9, how often to do them!) She also showed me a photo of my X ray and tried to explain the features of the bones. I do feel a lot more secure now going forward, it was total bewilderment as much as anything which caused my fears and anxieties. Thanks for your interest and support, also for sharing your experience. Makes a difference!

    5. That's great that you feel a bit better about things. It can be a bit of a shock suddenly finding yourself incapacitated. I expect you're supposed to do the exercises as often as you can bear them but don't overdo it. They gave me an after-care number to ring if I was needing any advice or further info. Maybe ask for that next time just as a 'cushion' in case of further anxieties. Feel free to email me anytime and use the 'downtime' for some extra reading!
