Today would've been the 66th birthday of one of my besties.
This pic was taken two months before she passed away, 3 days after Christmas Day 2012, with pancreatic cancer, a disease which ravaged her beautiful body and soul and which took her life far,far too early and shockingly quickly.
We'd been friends since we were 18 years old and saw many trials and tribulations come and go in both our lives but were always there for each other, come what may.
I miss her terribly.
This is a pic of my other bestie who is alive and well but who emigrated to NZ with her husband 4 years ago to be with their daughters, who live there too. We talk on the phone all the time and text each other almost every day.
We miss each other terribly.
This was us all together in Oban, en route to hitchhiking around Scotland, in 1973!!
Such happy times we had, before we grew up!

Lastly, a bit of fortuitous mail came my way this morning, just when I was at my glummest, in the shape of a lovely parcel from my pal, Betty.
This was what it contained.
The prettiest elephant garland which is so colourful and very cheery-looking. It will be replacing a rather sad and tired looking birdy garland that I've had for about 25 years but just couldn't bring myself to chuck out for somewhat sentimental reasons but out it must go to make room for my new friends.
Happy little elephants.
And what about my delightfully-coloured tie-dye scarf. It's almost too good to unravel with it's pretty beaded border!
The smell of my soap took me right back to the '70's with it's sweet aroma.
Last but not least some yummy chocs and fudge which will be very soon demolished nibbled at demurely!
Thanks so much Betty. I really loved everything in my parcel.
So it's goodbye from me for now and goodbye also from some sad and dusty little birdies.

So sorry to read about your bestie who passed away dear Anne .... & also the one who moved to the other side of the world!! Perhaps you need to come visit our little "neck of the woods". Your gift from Betty is just lovely - how special of her. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie. I'd be on a plane tomorrow if I could only fly! (Dumbo said that once!).
DeleteI really feel for you, Anne, with your closest friends departed one way or another. I am glad you liked the gifts and that they cheered you up a bit. I wish you lived nearer to me so I could nip round and cheer you up :)
ReplyDeleteI think you'd soon get fed up of me whinging, Betty! Of course, I haven't mention the other two friends who promptly left my life but you know all about that!
Deletep.s. your poster looks interesting (passionate embrace)!
ReplyDeleteRhett and Scarlett!!
DeleteMy Mum died from Pancreatic cancer, it's such an awful, awful disease. I'm so sorry you lost your lovely friend and that your other pal moved to NZ. Love the photo of you all hitch hiking around Oban, what cool chicks!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have Betty as a friend. Like you I had one of those bird garlands which disintegrated with old age a while ago. Your elephant garland makes for a fab replacement and the scarf is gorgeous.
I had that Gone with the Wind poster in my student hovel! xxx
I'm terribly sorry about your Mum. It's such a cruel disease. I'm very lucky to have Betty as a friend, she's such a treasure, as are you all who manage to give up your time to come and visit me 'virtually'. I love my Gone with the Wind poster!.
DeleteSuch a lovely picture of you and your bestie Nana....remember the good times x
ReplyDeleteBless you, Libs. So great to hear from you. Drop me a line whenever you feel like it.
